New Delhi, Oct 12 (PTI) Top seed Vaidehi Chaudhri and second seed Sai Samhita scored contrasting wins to move to the women's singles second round of the Fenesta Open national tennis championship, here on Wednesday.

Vaidehi played solid tennis from the baseline to win 6-2 6-0 against Lakshmi Gowda while Samhita had to dig into deep into her reserves to prevail 6-4 6-3 against Vanshika Choudhary.

"This is my seventh Fenesta Open and it has been a really good experience for me. For me, this is the biggest tournament, it really feels special. In 2017, I was also under U-18 Fenesta Open Tennis champion," said Vaidehi after her match.

Sai Samhita, 20, showed that she is ready for harder battles ahead. She has been a winner at the Fenesta Open in the past in the junior category.

"I always like coming here and this is my favourite tournament in India. I have been coming here since my junior days. Vanshika played really well and gave me a good fight," said Sai Samhita.

Third seed Yubrani Banerjee was also in cruise control against Srinidhi in her 6-2, 6-0 win.

Farhad Aleen Qamar, the fifth seed, beat Jagmeet Kaur 7-5, 6-2 in her first round match. Farhad was tested in the first set but once she settled down on the hard courts, she executed her strokes with more freedom.

"It feels nice to play here as the Fenesta Open offers a very good environment. It feels good to see and meet lot of experienced players who come to play here. I feel really happy to be here," said the fifth seed.

In the men's singles, Prajwal Dev, third seed, beat Abhishek Gaur in straight sets. The scoreline read 6-1, 6-1.
