Roland Emmerich is popularly known as the director of pulpy blockbusters made on a large scale with a common theme on humanity threatening disasters. Some of his famous works include Independence Day and its underperforming sequel, The Day After Tomorrow, Godzilla (the 1998 film) and 2012. His latest is Midway, a film based on the Japanese attack on the US Naval base in Pearl Harbour during World War II. Midway Trailer: Nick Jonas Starrer Roland Emmerich’s War Movie Based on the Pearl Harbour Attack Is Jaw-Dropping (Watch Video).

The movie features an ensemble cast in Ed Skrein, Patrick Wilson, Luke Evans, Aaron Eckhart, Nick Jonas, Mandy Moore, Dennis Quaid and Woody Harrelson. Dennis Quaid, who had earlier worked with Emmerich in The Day After Tomorrow, is playing World War II veteran Vice Admiral William "Bull" Halsey in the film.

Speaking to the media, Dennis revealed details about what went in his rendition of Halsey. He said, "Halsey was no fan of the Army brass and was known for taking matters into his own hands. He had his own style, and was brash. But his connection with his men made him a great leader, particularly of so many inexperienced and young men, some of whom were little more than boys. They looked at Halsey as a father figure who was going to get them through this."

Quaid also thinks the story holds relevance today about sacrificing for the greater good. "Everyone abroad and at home gave so much. You couldn’t get a rubber tire for your bicycle or buy gas because it was all going to the war effort. Everybody pitched in for something bigger than themselves. It’s a lesson for all of us about uniting in spite of our differences."

He also pointed out, "Roland shows audiences what they have never seen before, and does it in a way that makes you believe. I knew he would bring the same movie magic and his particular style and mastery to Midway, which is an amazing story.” Midway is releasing worldwide on November 8.
