Previously, Netflix confirmed it had edited 13 Reasons Why's controversial suicide scene from season one after consulting with experts. In a statement, Netflix said: "We've heard from many young people that 13 Reasons Why encouraged them to start conversations about difficult issues like depression and suicide and get help – often for the first time." 13 Reasons Why season 1 premiered on March 2017. Its plotline revolved around the 17-year-old Hannah Baker, who leaves 13 audio tapes with her schoolmateTony Padilla before she ends her own life. The tapes, that discloses her motivations to kill herself, is passed on to the 13 individuals, who as indicated by her are responsible for her demise. It was based on the novel by the same name, written by Jay Asher. The show went beyond the novel in the second season that revolved around the courtroom drama involving the trial of Bryce Walker, accused of raping Hannah.
