Kolkata, May 17: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday forecast thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds and heavy rainfall in several districts of West Bengal till May 21. According to the IMD, South Bengal — which has been experiencing high daytime temperatures and heatwave conditions in some places for the past several days — will witness a change in weather owing to the formation of a trough extending from northwest Uttar Pradesh to East Bangladesh across Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal.

The presence of favourable wind pattern and moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal will also cause enhanced thunderstorms with gusty winds accompanied with heavy rainfall in Purulia, Bankura, East and West Burdwan, Birbhum, Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts, it said. West Bengal Weather Forecast: Met Department Predicts Squally Weather, Rain in Coastal Districts From May 24.
