Kollam (Kerala), Jul 11 (PTI) Two people were injured on Friday when a scaffolding pipe fell from a construction site at Kollam Junction Railway Station, Southern Railway said.

The incident occurred at around 9.47 am near platform no 1, when a pipe from the construction site of the station's redevelopment project became dislodged.

It passed over the high-level safety fencing. Despite the presence of mandated safety structures such as fencing and protective mesh, the impact resulted in injuries to two people, the railway said in a statement.

The Railway Protection Force, Government Railway Police, and station staff responded immediately. The injured were taken to the District Hospital in Kollam for medical attention.

"The response was quick and ensured timely treatment," the statement said, adding that senior officials closely monitored the situation and ensured the injured received the best possible medical care.

Southern Railway has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the incident.

Officials said safety remains a top priority, and construction site protocols will be reviewed and strengthened.
