Anurag Kashyap and romantic films are a rare combination. So we are eager to see what exciting stuff he has for us with Manmarziyaan. The movie stars Abhishek Bachchan, Vicky Kaushal and Taapsee Pannu in the lead. We have seen so many love stories so what's new with Manmarziyaan that made Anurag Kashyap agree to direct a romantic film? Our in-house critic Sreeju Sudhakaran is watching the movie and here's what he has to say about the first half. Manmarziyaan First Reviews from TIFF 2018 OUT! Taapsee Pannu Gets Lion's Share of Praise; Abhishek Bachchan, Vicky Kaushal Get Applauded Too!

'Rumi (Taapsee) and Vicky (Vicky Kaushal) are in Fyaar with each other, but Vicky keeps on developing cold feet whenever Rumi mentions the subject of marriage. It's not that he doesn't love her; it's just that he can't handle the responsibility. When her family urges her to get married, she agrees to the alliance of a UK-returned banker Robbie (Abhishek), who is totally smitten, just so to spite Vicky. But how long can they carry this dilly-dallying affair, especially when a third person is also emotionally involved?

When it comes to the premise, Manmarziyaan has nothing new to offer. However what works for the film are how the lead characters are written and the performances. The first half is totally dominated by both Taapsee Pannu and Vicky Kaushal. Manmarziyaan is more of a movie for Taapsee and she delivers. Vicky continues his fine form and his look for his character makes him so relatable. The first half doesn't offer much for Abhishek Bachchan's character, but going by how things change towards the interval, I expect to see that Manmarziyaan offers more scope for him.'
