Mumbai, July 16: Three college students were stranded at Uttan beach on Sunday after they ventured quite deep towards the sea reportedly for clicking selfies. The fire brigade and local fishers later rescued the trio.

Vishal Minde (19), Sachin Waghmare (16) and Sumit Katpara (18), residents of Bhayandar, went to Uttan beach for a picnic. Locals claim they ventured into the deep sea to reach on a rock and began taking selfies there.

The trio was so involved in their adventure that they failed to notice that the water around them had risen to alarming levels due to the high tide. The rock they were on was fully submerged within half an hour.

Locals, who witnessed the entire incident, said they tried to alert the students when the water level began rising but their screams drowned in the wind. They immediately informed the fire brigade and the police.

“There was a high tide due to which the water level rose. They were so busy taking pictures that they didn’t realise the danger and almost lost their lives,” Godwin Garry, an eyewitness, told Mumbai Mirror.

The Uttan police reprimanded the students reminding them the perils of the selfie craze amid disastrous situations.
