New Delhi, August 7: Congress president Rahul Gandhi today while speaking at Mahila Adhikar Sammelan in New Delhi has launched a fresh salvo at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led NDA government over the increasing incidents of sexual crimes against women. Gandhi criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for maintaining silence the incidents of rape. The Congress president said, “The PM doesn't say anything on the incidents of rape. What happened against women in these four years is something which didn't happen even in the last 70 years.”

Talking about Women Reservation Bill, Gandhi also slammed the central government for taking time in passing the bill. He alleged that even after the Congress extended support to the government, the bill has been pending for too long.

The Congress President said, “They talk a lot but Women's Reservation Bill is long pending. Congress told them clearly that the entire party will stand by them the day they decide to pass it. But PM doesn't say anything. They said 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao'. Hamein nahi samajh aya beti kisse bachani thi.” He added that daughters of the country need to be saved from BJP MLA’s. Gandhi further added that if the BJP fails to pass the bill, after coming to power the Congress would pass it.

The Congress president alleged that ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ is just a slogan. He said that the central government had allotted only Rs 40 lakh per district for ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ scheme. While speaking at the seminar, Gandhi also took a dig on Rashtriya Swamsewak Sangh (RSS). He said that the ideology of the Sangh only wanted men to run the country. Gandhi further added, there are no women in the RSS because its leaders know that if women join the Sangh, they will change it completely.
