Netizens claimed to have come across links of Master movie on Telegram platform, both for download as well as watch online option. This led to the director Lokesh making a heartfelt plea to not share any clips from the movie. Master was launched way back in August 2019. Its working title was Thalapathy 64 and its title Master was announced in December 2019. Originally scheduled for an April 2020 release, it was postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown. Not wanting to release the film on the digital platform, the makers chose to wait and the film released on January 13, 2021, a day before Pongal. Master stars Malavika Mohanan, Shanthanu Bhagyaraj, Arjun Das and Andrea Jeremiah in pivotal roles apart from Thalapathy Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi.

It is really sad that in a time where the usually booming cinema business has suffered losses like anything, miscreants leak films online, not once thinking about the loss of earnings that the film's team will bear because of its availability online for free. While piracy has always happened and filmmaker shave always had to deal with the loss of part of their revenue, thanks to their movies being available online, given the post-COVID period where a lot of us are reluctant to hit the theatres, such piracy acts will dig a huge hole in a filmmaker's pocket!
