Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], August 8 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Congress delegation submitted a memorandum in the name of the Director General of Police (DGP) in his office on Thursday demanding a probe in lathi charge incident by Indore police on state Congress chief Jitu Patwari and party workers during a protest in Indore.

Former Union Minister Arun Yadav, former Minister PC Sharma, Congress MLA Arif Masood, State Congress Media In charge Mukesh Nayak and other leaders reached the DGP office at Police Headquarters (PHQ) in the state capital and submitted the memo to officer Vineet Kapoor.

Congress leader Mukesh Nayak told ANI, "We came to give a memorandum to the Director General of Police (DGP) regarding the brutality and cruelty that the Indore police had committed during the peaceful protest of Congress on August 6 in Indore. We demanded that the brutality with which the police had beaten our president Jeetu Patwari is not acceptable in any way and it should be investigated. Congress's agitations will continue till it is investigated."

The Congress party also resolved that they would never forget the incident and whenever they get time, they would react to it, he added.

Former Union Minister Arun Yadav said, "During a protest in Indore on August 6 in which I and many senior leaders, including our state president Jitu Patwari were present, our workers were brutally attacked (Lathi Charge) by the police, which was not needed. In this regard, a memorandum was submitted to the DGP today. We demanded that the matter should be investigated and action should be taken against whoever is found responsible for it."

Notably, Congress leaders staged a protest in front of the Indore Municipal Corporation office in connection with scams on August 6. State Congress chief Jitu Patwari, former minister Sajjan Singh Verma, former Union Minister Arun Yadav and other Congress leaders and party workers participated in the protest.

When the Congress workers along with state chief Patwari were heading to submit a memorandum to the Divisional Commissioner's Office, the police stopped them by barricading them on the way. During this, some party workers tried to climb over the barricade and the police used water cannons to stop them. (ANI)
