Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Rani Mukerji crossed paths recently at Krishna Raj Kapoor’s funeral. The two ladies warmed up to each other and Rani even went on to warmly greet the Fanney Khan heroine’s mother. So, what’s such a big deal you’d ask? Well, those who’ve been following the two beauties from very early on their careers would know exactly why it’s headline worthy. For those of you who do not know, Aishwarya and Rani Mukerji were thick friends. In fact, Rani had talked about the Kajra Re actress very fondly until things started going wrong in their friendship.
When Aishwary Rai was going through a bad patch with her then boyfriend Salman Khan, the actress’ work was also hampered. It was widely reported how Salman misbehaved with Shah Rukh Khan on the sets of Chalte Chalte and created a ruckus. The Dabangg hero had not just gotten into a squabble with his friend SRK, but also damaged set property. This resulted in Aishwarya’s ouster from the movie. Shah Rukh then roped in Rani Mukerji as Ash’s replacement and that’s how things got sour between the two ladies. Aishwarya felt hurt and let down by Rani. Things got more awkward when Aishwarya started dating Vivek Oberoi.
Even though Vivek and Rani had delivered a blockbuster with Saathiya their rapport off screen was exactly opposite. And if buzz is to be believed then Vivek created a rift between Ash and Rani when he asked his girlfriend to keep safe distance from his Saathiya co-star. That’s not all, the Ghulam actress was rumoured to be in a relationship with Aishwarya’s husband Abhishek Bachchan. While filming Bunty Aur Babli reports suggested that Rani-Abhishek had become really close. However, Abhishek’s family did not approve of Rani. Things went from bad to worse when Aishwarya-Abhishek relationship made headlines and both the actors decided not to invite Rani for their wedding.
Rani had in an interview post Abhi-Ash wedding said, “Only Abhishek can throw light on that (not inviting her for the wedding). The truth is that if a person chooses not to invite you to their wedding, you realise where you stand with the person. You may be deluded and think you are friends but maybe the friendship was only restricted to being co-stars on the sets. However, it doesn't matter now. It became very clear and evident that we were only co-actors and not friends. Moreover inviting someone to a wedding is a personal choice. Tomorrow when I decide to get married, I will choose the handful of people I want to invite.” Also see: When Aamir Khan’s Indifferent Behaviour Broke Rani Mukerji’s Heart

The two ladies have let bygones be bygones. Because when Aishwarya lost her father, Rani was one of the first actors to be by Aishwarya and console her. In fact, the latest visuals of Aishwarya-Rani hug also shows the warm rapport that the Hichki heroine shares with Ash’s mother. We bet after watching these two heroine hug it out, you too would want to rekindle your bond with that long lost friend.
