If the first half of 2019 was owned by Mohanlal and his film Lucifer in Malayalam Cinema, it looks like the second half of the year will be ruled by Mammootty and his Mamangam. A period film, directed by M Padmakumar, Mamangam also stars Unni Mukundan, Prachi Tehlan, Siddique, Kaniha, and others. Interestingly, there was an old classic in Malayalam cinema also called as Mamankam, that has the late Prem Nazir and Jayan in the lead. If you have been observing the promotions, viz. the trailer and the songs, then you might have observed that the makers of Mamangam are underplaying Mammootty's role in the film. That is, except when they have to give him the hero shot. Instead, Unni Mukundan is given more prominence in the promotions.
Same is the case with the new video revealed for Mamangam, which is the behind-the-scenes making video of the film. We see Unni Mukundan, Siddique, Prachi Tehlan, Kaniha in the look of their characters. We also get to see some intense sword-fighting sequences. And just when you wonder where the man is, Mammootty arrives majestically towards the end, riding on a horse. Mamangam is set against the backdrop of the famous 18th-century Mamankam festival that used to be held in the Malabar region of Kerala. The movie's plot is about how a group of guerilla warriors overthrew their tyrannical rulers. Mamangam is all set to release on November 21.
