India started their ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 campaign on a winning note as the Men in Blue beat South Africa by 6 wickets. Chasing 228 to win, India reached the target with six wickets in hand and 15 balls remaining. Rohit Sharma scored 122 not out off 144 deliveries and played a patient knock to guide India home. He was adjudged the Player of the Match for his unbeaten knock. Twitter has gone on an overdrive, praising Rohit for what he himself called "not a typical Rohit Sharma innings." India vs South Africa Highlights ICC World Cup 2019 Match: India Wins by Six Wickets.

Earlier, South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis won the toss and elected to bat first. But South Africa was in trouble early on as Jasprit Bumrah got the ball to move. However, it was Yuzvendra Chahal who inflicted damage on the South African line-up and broke the back of Proteas batting by picking up 4 wickets. South Africa were restricted to 227/9 in 50 overs. India didn't have a smooth chase either, as Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli departed cheaply. India vs South Africa, ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 Full Scorecard.

But it was Rohit's innings, helped by KL Rahul, MS Dhoni and Hardik Pandya's cameo at the end that sealed the deal for the Men in Blue. Rohit's performance is being lauded on social media and Twitter.
