Shankar's sci-fi film 2.0 released in theatres last Thursday. Within the 5 days of its run, the movie has garnered Rs 111 crore at the box office. The movie stars Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar in lead roles and you can call the box office numbers a collective effort of their star prowess. Of course, Shankar's visionary direction is undeniable as a factor as well. The movie has received mixed reviews from the critics but when has what newspapers have to say about a film ever stopped a fan from watching it. You can expect the movie to break a few records this week.

On Monday, 2.0 earned Rs 13.75 crore, while on opening day the movie earned Rs 18 crore. The dip is obvious given its a Monday. And these are only the figures of the Hindi dubbed version. Nationwide, the response to the movie has been even more enigmatic.

As per trade analyst, Taran Adarsh, 2.0 will emerge as Akshay Kumar's highest grosser before the end of this week. So, you should have your congratulatory tweets to the actor in order already. Though, with a budget of Rs 550 crore, 2.0, the most expensive film made in India, 2.0 has to make more than Rs 650 crore to earn profits.

Talking about the movie, our in-house film critic Sreeju Sudhakaran wrote in his review, "In 2.0's own slang, the film has a very good firmware and a dazzling body, but loses battery rapidly and shuts off frequently. While I am in awe at the movie's ambitions and congratulate the team for nearly pulling it off, I just wish that beautiful canvas had a Mona Lisa to show off!"
