New Delhi, March 19: Due to advancement of technology over a period of time, radical changes in Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) have made lives simpler by providing immersive benefits to the user, a 360-degree view of products, and is therefore set to spur a technological revolution. Application of VR to different industries like healthcare, training and development programs, military, scientific visualisation and education industries has been recommended to bring about a radical change. In this regard, companies are now working on incorporating this technology into their businesses. As per Vidur Gupta, the Director of Spectrum Talent Management, a global recruitment firm, growing importance of VR and AR has created more options for capturing and diversifying knowledge for working professionals.

"With the help of AR, one can take the owner's manuals to the field that will aid in installation of any device or application. For instance, a maintenance manual for a vacuum cleaner that guides the users through step by step instructions. These technology-driven tools are getting better, more realistic, and have been accepted by us in different facets of life," he said.

Gupta further noted that different needs can be addressed through these technologies such as use of demo for buying products, education or training. Moreover, he believes that it VR and AR have paved the way for less human interface and costs incurred by companies thereon.

To implement VR, Gupta said a custom-made Domain-Specific Language (DSL) will be the key and will permit the workforce to write and develop optimised programs or products for the virtual environment. Many industry-specific units are looking forward to a better tomorrow using the VR technology. The scope is never-ending and jobs around it are being created for thoughtful creative minds such as 3D Artists, VR Game Developers, Unity 3D engineer, VR SME, Backend Developer for VR and much more.

"The industry needs support from experienced UI/UX, legal, marketing, business development personnel. Millennials getting into the industry need training and have to be in touch with people who are already there in the field, to get familiar with the VR technology. Courses like 3D animation, modelling, object-oriented programming, and software development kits (SDKs) helps to learn and develop skills in the VR companies," he said.

Implementation of VR in different industries, Gupta noted, has been expanding rapidly. Before buying any product, a customer wants to experience the product in real and with the help of VR technology, it is now possible, especially in the retail and manufacturing industries. The sales executives, on the other hand, can demonstrate the products easily to the customers or train them in installation. In the construction industry, prototyping will be much easier and one can understand better. The VR will provide a valuable feedback to decision makers and the end users. This will help in reducing time and will save money. Similarly, VR and AR, as per Gupta, will have a major impact on the tourism industry, as any resort or hotel can give a 360-degree virtual tour for all its properties to the customers.
