West Indies and ICC World XI tour of England 2018

Summary

World T20 Champions Windies will take on ICC World XI in a fund-raising Twenty20 International at Lord’s on May 31. ICC has granted the match an International status. The proceeds from the Windies vs World XI match will go towards the restoration of the cricket grounds in Dominica (Windsor Park Stadium) and Anguilla (James Ronald Webster Park) after they were damaged following the passage of Hurricanes Irma and Maria last year. Other venues that will benefit from the T20I match are Sir Viv Richards Stadium in Antigua, the A.O. Shirley Recreation Ground in the British Virgin Islands and the Carib Lumber Ball Park in St. Maarten.

 

Windies will be lead by all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite. The squad boasts of players like Chris Gayle, Marlon Samuels, Andre Russell, Even Lewis and Denesh Ramdin. England captain Eoin Morgan, on the other hand, will lead the World XI team.

 

The World XI team features Dinesh Karthik and all-rounder Hardik Pandya as the sole Indians. Former Pakistan captain and all-rounder Shahid Afridi will come out of retirement to take part in this match as he has been named in the World XI squad. Apart from him, Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik, Sri Lanka’s Thisara Perera, Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan and Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal are part of the World XI team as well.
