India's horror tour is often referred to as the Summer of 42, after their total at Lord's. India found themselves at the receiving end of multiple off-the-field controversies as well. Ajit Wadekar was dropped immediately after the tour, and his career met a swift end thereafter.

Tony Greig led an England side to 3-1 win in India in 1976/77. Barring a few instances, the Indian batsmen did not deliver as a unit against John Lever, Bob Willis, and Derek Underwood. Their first six scores in the series were 122, 234, 155, 181, 164, and 83.

India vs England Series Part 1: India’s First Ever Test Match, 1932
India played their first Test match from June 25, 1932, at Lord's. It was part of a long summer, where they 26 First-Class matches, winning 9, drawing 9, and losing 8. CK Nayudu led India in the Test match after the Maharaja of Porbandar, the official captain of the squad, sat out for the Test match.

The 1936 tour featured India's last Test matches before World War 2. The tour was marred by controversies, caused largely by the captain, the Maharajkumar of Vizianagram. India lost 0-2, but not before Mushtaq Ali and Vijay Merchant broke many a record at Old Trafford.
