India has started cultivating asafoetida, commonly known as hing, in Himachal Pradesh, initiated by CISR and IHBT. Till now, most of the hing stock was imported from countries such as Afghanistan, Iran and Uzbekistan. Hing is widely used spice in Indian cuisines and is known for its medicinal properties as well.
