Dispur, July 12:  Assam police suspect that a serial killer is on the loose after two women were found murdered under similar circumstances and pattern. According to English daily Hindustan Times, a 21-year-old student and a 48-year-old woman were found dead under mysterious circumstances in two separate incidents but the modus operandi of the killer matches in both cases, said police on the basis of preliminary inquiry. The killer has also left gamosa (Assamese handmade towel) in both the cases after the crime, said the police. The body of both the women were found from the similar railway route and their bodies were located in train toilets.

The first incident happened with a 21-year-old student who was studying in the Assam Agricultural University, as per the report. The body of the student was found in a toilet compartment and police inquiry suggests that it is a case of strangulation. The body of the girl was found by a sweeper, as per the newspaper report.

The second incident came to light the very next day, and has similarities with the first one. The body of a 48-year-old was found by the police from the toilet compartment of the Awadh-Assam Express and she was also strangulated, says police inquiry.

Assam director general of police has said that a special investigation team has been formed to look into the case. The special director general of police, Railways, said that a response team has also been deployed across the state for inputs on the case and to avoid a repeat of the crime.
