WhatsApp recently introduced the new Face ID and Touch ID authentication feature on Apple iPhones. This new feature was rolled out an added security layer for the users using WhatsApp messenger application. In less than a month, this new feature on Apple iPhones has been plagued by a bug leaving it useless security feature. According to the market reports, the WhatsApp authentication feature has been affected by a bug that lets anyone bypass the security system to access the application when the security option is left enabled. Initially spotted by a Reddit user – de_X_ter, the user highlighted that this bypass method works only on a specific condition. The user explained by pointing out the method to bypass the security feature, which can be done if the user has set unlock any option than immediately. To unlock the application, WhatsApp offers certain options like immediately, after one minute, after 15 minutes or after 1 hour.
When the users selected any option other than immediately, this WhatsApp bug is activated. For example, if the user selects ‘after one minute’ or ‘after 15 minutes’ or ‘after one hour’ the bug lets anyone bypass the security feature. Moreover, WhatsApp also has issued a statement mentioning, WhatsApp has said a statement that it is aware of the issue. “We are aware of the issue and a fix will be available shortly. In the meantime, we recommend that people set the screen lock option to immediately.”
